It was a sudden-death playoff ending to the Rutland Secondary Voodoos senior boys鈥 soccer team season, losing a 2-1 decision to the Mount Boucherie Secondary Bears in a shootout.

Rutland converted three of their five shootout attempts, while the Bears converted four of their five penalty shots.

Played at the Constable Neil Bruce Middle School soccer pitch on Nov. 2, Mount Boucherie took a first-half 1-0 lead after scoring on a penalty kick.

Rutland pressed in the second half for the equalizer, finally evening the score 1-1 on a direct free kick scored by Blake Redmond.

The teams finished regulation time tied 1-1, and two overtime periods failed to produce a goal by either team, creating the need for a penalty kick shootout to decide it.

Following the game, Mount Boucherie head coach David Marks sent out an email to the Rutland Secondary coaches and players, commending RSS for playing a 鈥榝antastic鈥 game.

鈥淟ike usual, you guys were gritty, fought hard and your counterattack was nerve-wracking at times,鈥 said Marks in his email.

鈥溾 thought they played with a tremendous amount of heart and was arguably one of our two toughest games all season鈥 feel that Rutland over the years has been our biggest rival.鈥
