Update (2:40 p.m.)
Boundary-Similkameen MLA Donegal Wilson has expressed her support for Lasser's Fruitstand, a family-owned business that was destroyed by a fire along Highway 3 in Keremeos on Feb. 28.
"My thoughts are with the Lasser family in Keremeos after last night's devastating fire," Wilson wrote on Facebook. "I know our firefighters did everything they could, but from the photos, it's clear much of their business has been lost. Wishing them strength and support during this difficult time."
In a statement on Saturday, the Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department confirmed crews were unable to save the structure from the blaze. Members of the department were called to the scene at 8:53 p.m.
"Once on scene, firefighters quickly worked to mitigate the fire from impinging on nearby buildings, vehicles, and other property," the department said. "Due to the fire being fully involved inside, we were not able to save the structure, but were successful in saving all other properties close by."
Crews were on scene until approximately 6 a.m., they said.
Members of the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department and Kaleden Volunteer Fire also helped with the response.
