JOEY restaurant top spot for women to work

JOEY Restaurant Group was named one of Canada鈥檚 Best Workplaces for Women.

As women around the world celebrate International Women鈥檚 Day, Joey restaurant chain is celebrating being named one of Canada鈥檚 Best Workplaces for Women.

According to Joey, 52 per cent of 鈥渨omen are in management positions and women play a leading role in all sectors of their business including finance, HR, design and construction鈥.

The title was given to the Joey Restaurant Group after an analysis conducted by Great Place to Work Canada, which included the following considerations of the organizations surveyed:

  • Minimum 50 women employees in the organization
  • Minimum 90% positive response to the statement 鈥淚 am treated fairly regardless of my gender鈥
  • For eligibility, surveyed organizations provided male/female breakdown by job level (non-management., middle management and senior management)

鈥淭his is not only a day to recognize all the great women that make up our organization, but an opportunity to illustrate the diverse careers you can have working for a progressive restaurant group,鈥 said Leah Whitworth, regional manager for the Lower Mainland.

鈥淢any people have pre-conceived notions about restaurant 鈥渏obs鈥 and what a career looks like. There鈥檚 a whole world of opportunity that exists depending on your interests and skill set. Joey Restaurant group ranked 46th of the top 50 best places for woman to work in Canada.

鈥淚 can speak to that personally,鈥 said Britt Innes, VP of Marketing. 鈥淚鈥檝e been with company for 13 years. I started as a server, studying to earn my business degree at Simon Fraser University. I quickly realized I was learning more at Joey as I moved up the ranks; formulating budgets, making sales plans, managing a team. Now, I鈥檓 the VP of Marketing. At Joey, you forge your own path.鈥

According to Great Place to Work Canada, the top five places for Canadian women to work are Vega, Ryan, SaskCentral, Microsoft and Royal LePage.
