Jeanette Lambert has won the Carr鈥檚 Landing ward byelection.

Lambert topped the polls with 130 votes, finishing ahead of D. Oscar Barnes with 72 votes and Joanne de Vries with 28 votes.

Lambert will be sworn in to office on July 4 along with Todd McKenzie, who won the Oyama by-election earlier as the only candidate nominee.

There were a total of 230 ballots cast in the Carr鈥檚 Landing by-election, with 147 electors casting their vote on advance voting days and 83 voting today on election day.

There are an estimated 927 eligible voters in Carr鈥檚 Landing.

The Carr鈥檚 Landing by-election featured Barnes presenting himself as a pro-environment candidate who questioned the merits of the district allowing the new O鈥橰ourke Winery project to proceed because he felt it would have a negative impact on the rural residential appeal of the area.

Lambert ran as a pro-business and , and was a strong supporter for the winery, while de Vries was somewhere in the middle between her two opponents, calling for responsible, sustainable development that considers the impact on the local environment.

鈥淪ince the single candidate for the Oyama ward council seat was acclaimed, this byelection was focused on the Carr鈥檚 Landing ward council position so both advance polls and the general voting day poll was held at the Carr鈥檚 Landing Fire Station,鈥� said Reyna Seabrook, Lake Country Chief Election Officer.
