Window shutter shot at S. Rutland Elementary over weekend

RCMP ask for public's assistance, after a window was shot at sometime over the past weekend at a elementary school on Mallach Road.

RCMP recovered evidence at South Rutland Elementary School showing damage to a window screen was caused by a small caliber firearm.

On Nov. 14, shortly after 8 a.m., the 91大黄鸭 RCMP received a mischief report after school official鈥檚 observed damage to the rear of South Rutland Elementary School in the 200 block of Mallach Road.

School officials said the damage occurred sometime over the past weekend, between end of the school day on Thursday Nov. 10 and before the start of the school day of Monday Nov. 14.

The damage was contained to a metal rolling shutter, which covers a classroom window at the rear of the school.

RCMP made a full examination of the scene, with the assistance of both Police Dog Services and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and recovered evidence that the damage caused is consistent with a small caliber firearm.

鈥淚nvestigators continue to probe this matter, which has included a neighbourhood canvass of homes in the immediate area,鈥 said Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淧olice are looking for any additional information which will help them identify the individual or individuals responsible for this careless mischievous act.鈥

鈥淭he RCMP wish to re-iterate that the damage to the school was caused after hours and while no one was believed to be inside the facility at the time. There is no information at this time to suggest that the damage to the school was a targeted incident, nor is there any evidence or information that leads us to anticipate any further incidents,鈥 said Cpl. O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淩egardless, police are treating the matter seriously and working closely with the Central Okanagan School District,鈥 he adds.
