A trip to a fourth-straight Brier final was within Brad Gushue's grasp.
The skip of Team Canada had a chance, down 6-5 in the 10th end of the 2025 Montana's Brier semifinal against Team Alberta's Brad Jacobs.
However, his final rock couldn't quite get a proper curl, and the misstep gave Jacobs a trip to the final of the 2025 Montana's Brier later in the day (Sunday).
The tense game in front of a packed Prospera Place in 91大黄鸭 started off with three straight blank ends, with Jacobs holding the hammer.
After Gushue stole one in the fourth, Jacobs roared back with three in the fifth. Then, teams traded singles in the sixth and seventh.
In the eighth, a mishit from Jacobs opened up the opportunity for Gushue to snag three, which he did beautifully by hitting a double for three, and go up 5-4.
Jacobs promptly responded with an excellent final rock to sit two and go up for good 6-5 as Gushue could not respond in the 10th.
Both teams struggled managing the time throughout, as Gushue had mere seconds left on the clock, while Jacobs had less than two minutes in the 10th end to play all of his rocks.
The win by Jacobs snapped a long losing streak against six-time Brier champ Gushue. It had been nearly nine years since the last time Jacobs beat Gushue in a playoff game, back in 2016.
Now, Jacobs will face off against Team Manitoba's Matt Dunstone's rink in the final. Dunstone's rink is the top-ranked in the country and has had just one loss in this year's Brier, to Northern Ontario's Brad Epping in round-robin.
The 39-year-old Jacobs last won the Brier in 2013, while the 29-year-old Dunstone is looking for his maiden title, after a finals appearance in 2023.
The final begins at 5 p.m.
