Vernon鈥檚 own Danielle Pechet returned from the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games sporting some new hardware.
The snowshoeing athlete collected a gold, silver and two bronze at the nationwide competition hosted in Calgary from Feb. 27 to March 2.
鈥淚 am very proud of her achievements and all that she has accomplished,鈥 said her coach Jenny Jung.
Pechet came first in the 800 metre race, second in the 4 x 100 metre relay and third in both the 400 and 1,600 metre races.
In what was her first Special Olympics competition, Pechet had been training in the Vernon area for the past 10 months.
鈥淗er hard work not only encompassed her physical training but also various aspects of mental training,鈥 Jung added.
鈥淚t has been a privilege coaching Danielle and seeing her hard work blossom on the national stage, not only for herself but as a valued teammate, and seeing the connections she has forged with other athletes across the nation.鈥
Throughout the Special Olympics competition, Team B.C. took home 135 medals; 54 gold, 45 silver and 36 bronze.
