It can be hard to find a babysitter Valentine’s Day when everyone else is in the same boat, so Shuswap Middle School (SMS) students are helping out by welcoming young ones aboard.
As a fundraiser for the French Immersion 8 upcoming trip to Quebec, the students are holding a Babysitting Night to keep children safe and occupied while canoodling couples enjoy a romantic night out.
Hosting the collaborative babysitting event will be the “super fun” 13 and 14 year-old students, along with teacher supervision from trip organizers Kristy Ross and Roni Wocknitz.
The evening will feature a variety of engaging activities for kids of all ages, including sports and recreation in the gym, and crafts and games in the cafeteria, with pizza and juice boxes also being served to fuel the fun. They will generally only be for kids ages four and up, but Wocknitz said they could make exceptions if older siblings will be there as well.
“This event offers you an opportunity for a well-deserved date night while providing your children with a fun and supervised environment,” organizers say on the School District 83 Facebook page.
To ensure everything goes smoothly, organizers also ask that parents sign up in advance with the parent name, children’s names, ages and a contact phone number. The babysitting service is by donation, but they suggest that be between $30-40, with cash only being accepted. The event will take place at the Shuswap Middle School on Wednesday, Feb. 14 from 5-8 p.m.
