The Vernon Winter Carnival鈥檚 executive director, Kris Fuller, was recognized for her tireless work around the community with the Above and Beyond Award at Vernon Morning Star鈥檚 Community Leader Awards (CLA).

The Above and Beyond Award goes to an individual who makes a positive contribution to their community through their work and goes beyond the requirement of their job to support and make the community a better place. Fuller received her plaque at the banquet hosted at the Vernon Lodge on March 13.

鈥淚 love being active in the community and making a difference,鈥 said Fuller. 鈥淚 have been on both sides of the equation, looking for volunteers and being a volunteer so I know how important it is to lend a hand and pay it forward.鈥

Laurell Cornell, Canival board chair, expressed heartfelt admiration for Fuller鈥檚 tireless efforts.

鈥淲e are so proud of her. Kris works so hard, wears her heart on her sleeve, and it鈥檚 easy to see how much she loves the community.鈥

Fuller鈥檚 contributions extend far beyond her role as executive director. Known for her passion and drive, she has exemplified the spirit of community service through her extensive volunteer work and involvement in various initiatives. In the past year alone, Fuller volunteered over 50 times, demonstrating an unparalleled commitment to fostering positive change. She is also the president of the Okanagan Artists of Canada Society and sits on the Vernon Tourism Commission.

Fuller鈥檚 nomination at the CLA鈥檚 was put forth by The Literacy Society鈥檚 outreach coordinator, Wendy Aasen, a testament to Fuller鈥檚 profound impact and meaningful engagement within the Vernon community.

鈥淪he is everywhere bringing the Carnival to life with humour, energy, skill, collaboration and partnership,鈥 said Aasen. 鈥淯nder her leadership, it has grown from a seasonal event to almost a year of celebration, which provides enormous opportunity for community engagement.鈥

The 2024 Community Leader Awards is a revived program started by The Morning Star, to recognize leaders in and around the community that have been working behind the scenes.

There were a number of submissions for 12 specific categories, which range from mentorship, coaching, volunteering and leadership.
