Central Okanagan is joining communities across Canada to celebrate Crime Stoppers Month.
January is Crime Stoppers Month. The program helps prevent and solve crimes by allowing people to share tips anonymously.
鈥淲e are incredibly grateful for the support of our community,鈥 said Aaron Gretchen, president of the Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers Society. 鈥淭he tips we鈥檝e received helped lead to over 73 arrests in 2024, making our region safer for everyone.鈥
Since its launch in 1976, Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers has made a major impact:
- Over 33,000 tips received;
- More than 3,100 arrests made, clearing nearly 4,100 cases;
- Recovery of $94 million in cash, drugs, weapons, and property.
Despite offering $335,000 in rewards over the years, nearly half remain unclaimed.
The program also supports several initiatives:
- Publicizing Wanted individuals and Unsolved Crimes;
- Highlighting Missing Persons cases;
- Running the Project 529 Garage bike registration program;
- Helping address graffiti issues.
Crime Stoppers also collaborates with local media to share information on unsolved cases and encourages residents to come forward with tips.
Residents can share tips by calling 1-800-222-8477 or submitting them online on the . A tip leading to an arrest could result in up to $2,000 as a reward.
