Revelstoke's young karatekas returned home last March sporting gold after representing the city at the 2025 91大黄鸭 Karate Championship.
The 12 gi-robed martial artists put their conditioning to the test the week of March 7 to 9, striking decisively to sweep 20 medals for Revelstoke against competition from 91大黄鸭, Kaslo, Vancouver, Victoria and Chilliwack.
These dozen duelers, all hailing from Revelstoke Shotokan Karate Club, came back to town with plenty of shiny honours to recognize their performance on the mat: eight gold, eight silver, and four bronze medals.
Connor and Corey Briscoe scored gold together in family kata, with Connor also achieving gold in kihon and silver in kata and kumite. Corey additionally earned bronze in kata, right behind his brother.
Colin and Emile Bergeron came next for family kata, landing silver, while Colin also took gold in kata and kihon.
Anika Raasch won big with gold in kata and kumite. Isha Sanuj was awarded silver in kihon and kumite, along with bronze for kata.
Hendrik Preissl also earned gold in kumite, as well as silver in kata, while Kayla Hughes won silver in kata, Matthew Grey scored bronze in kata and Harlo Stone took bronze in kihon.
Honourable mentions also go to fellow karatekas Sandy Liebrecht and Dahlia Michaels, and Sensei Chantal Faucher for preparing these athletes for championships and continuing to support them in 91大黄鸭 from off the mat.
Contestants from the 91大黄鸭 Karate Championship are now preparing for nationals this May in Newmarket, Ont., with sights set on qualifying for the Pan American JKA Karate Championship in Mexico City this September.
